Reunion History
I've been back in Nashville for 20 years, and in that time, I've run into a couple of former classmates but spent most of my time with work, family, and church activities. I really had not given much thought to DHS or the friends I made there - just going through the daily routine like we all do.
After my very best friend lost her 4 year battle with breast cancer, the phrase "life is short" had a whole new meaning for me. My daughter had introduced me to Facebook, and I discovered a few Dons and Donnettes and reconnected with some friends. People were asking about a 40th class reunion but that was about it. So one day I decided to get the ball rolling and sent out an invitation for a planning meeting at my home to all the former classmates I could find.
We've had 3 meetings so far, each time there have been new faces and people are getting excited about June 12, 2010. So far, we have gone through the class list, discussing what we know and don't know about the members of the class of 1970. We have mourned the loss of old friends, secured a venue, and started discussions about food, music, budget and program with the reunion survey results are guiding our agenda. But the best thing that has come out of these meetings is OUR WEBSITE, and Larry Vantrease gets all the credit.
Our website is a way for each of you to contribute, especially if you are unable to attend a planning meeting. Upload photos, tell everyone what you've been doing the last 40 years! Share your triumphs and tragedies, funny stories, grandchildren, pets, favorite teacher story, or confess to a crime (see Billy Johnson's stories). Please participate - our website makes the years disappear and by next June, it will be like catching up with friends after summer vacation, not after 40 years. Don't miss this opportunity dear friends - life is too short.

A Heartfelt Invitation to Your 40th High School Reunion
There are four main reasons why you should mark your calendar now for June 12, 2010 and attend your 40th Donelson High School Class of '70 Reunion. First, with all the preparation that's going into this event, you will make some great memories--memories that you can treasure for years. Second, I promise you will laugh, and it's a proven fact that laughter helps you stay young. Third, you will renew old friendships/relationships and make new ones, another proven method of living longer. Fourth, none of us know for sure if we will get another chance to attend a Donelson reunion. Some things in life are only available one time; if you miss it, you are just out of luck.
Now you might be thinking you are too busy or too embarrassed to see and be seen by your old friends. After all, many of us are now bald, grey, bent over, skinny, fat, ugly, whatever! Since we have already lived almost 3/4 of our life expectancy, we don't have any more time in our lives to be hesitant or embarrassed. We have to grab every opportunity we are given. So come whether you live near or far away; whether you are rich or poor, single or married, in perfect health or not so much, just come. You'll be glad you did. I'll see you there, I'll be the fat woman laughing all night long.
